On a map of

building NB) seventh floor, room 29-32.
Location of University and Department The University is
located in the south-east of Bochum, closer to the river Ruhr than
to the city center. On the campus
map, the Department for Space Science and Astropyhsics can be
found in the northern part of the Physics Department building
(marked green and labeled "NB") on the seventh floor (and should
not be confused with the Astronomical Institute
located or the seventh floor of the NA building). The secretary
office is in room No. 56.

Arrival by car
Situated in the heart of the Ruhr Area, the city of Bochum is very well connected to
the local
highway system.
In north-south direction, the Autobahn A43 (Hamburg -
Münster - Bochum - Wuppertal) passes Bochum very close to the
University. Please use the exit "Ruhr-Universität" (exit No.
19), just next to the Autobahn junction of A43 and
A44. Further in the south, Wuppertal is directly connected
to Köln via the Autobahn A1.
In west-east direction, the Autobahn A44 (Netherlands -
Bochum - Kassel) as well as the B1 and the Autobahn
A40 cross Bochum. On the Autobahn A44, please use the
exit No. 19 "Ruhr Universität", where the Autobahn A44
meets the Autobahn A43.
When coming from the city center of
Bochum, the University is easily reached via
"Universitätsstrasse" heading in south-east direction.
Arrival by plane
The international airport next to Bochum is
Düsseldorf airport. If you you arrive at Düsseldorf
airport take the sky train to the main station of the
airport, it is for free. From the main staion
there are direct train connections to Bochum. You find the time
schedule if you use the rail server with From:
"Dusseldorf Airport DB"To: "Ruhr Universitaet Bochum". At
best you use one of the RE-trains to Bochum. They belong to the
regional public transport (VRR) and you can buy a ticket at the
orange vending machines inside the station. You will need a ticket
of category C which costs 7.30 EURO (May 2003). This ticket does
not only cover the train ride to Bochum, but it is also valid for
the underground (U35) ride to the university. Do not forget to
stamp your ticket when entering the platform! (At the Airpost staion the stamp machine is next to the vending machine). The other trains (IR,
EC, IC, ICE) are more expensive and you need to buy a ticket at the
counter of the station. You can also buy a ticket on the train if
you are in a hurry, but this is even more expensive. In Bochum main
station take the underground U35 direction ``Hustadt`` to the
Ruhr-University (~10 min). (If you have not already bought a ticked
of category C you need to buy a ticked of category A (1.75 Euro)
now.)
Arrival by train
Coming to Bochum by train is very convenient. There are direct
connections to Bochum for example from Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt,
or München. The Deutsche Bundesbahn offers an easy-to-use
European
railway timetable, which also allows you to find local
transport connections (U-Bahn or Bus) within Germany. Just enter
the name of the station or an address of the place you want to
visit.
The University campus and Bochum main station (city center) are
connected via the subway U35, which operates every 5-8
minutes during working hours and every 15 minutes in the evening
until past midnight. The travel time is ten minutes and the price
(Preisstufe A) for a one way ticket is 1.75 Euro (May 2002). The
ticket can be purchased at the vending machines in the main
station, or during working hours, in the ticket center for local
transport on the first underground level of the main station. To
find local transport connections you can use the VRR-search engine or the
Bundesbahn-search engine.

Hotel
Many of our guest stay in Wald- und Golfhotel Lottental. The
hotel is located close to the university (see the blue circle in
the lower left corner of the map of
the campus ). It is within 20 minutes walking distance from the
university underground station (marked H on the map, just above the
campus). Alternatively, you could take a taxi from the main station
or from the taxi point close to the university underground station
(marked by the red T on the map). This is recommended in particular
if you have heavy luggage or if you are arriving after sunset. If
you do not want to walk or take a taxi you can reach the hotel by
bus (No. 339, direction: Witten, stop: `Grimbergstraße'). The
bus also departs from the taxi point.
